FIELD NOTES

A free book. A better first hello.

Separate the file, the signup and the follow-up. You can then choose the simplest setup that does all three.

Map the journey before choosing tools.

1Set the expectation

Describe the book and what emails the reader is joining.

2Deliver the file

Give the reader a working download route.

3Welcome the reader

Send the follow-up you promised, if there is one.

A file download does not automatically create a working email journey. Decide which event adds someone to the list, which message delivers the book and what starts any later sequence. Keep the newsletter invitation clear instead of assuming every download is permission for unrelated messages.

Three ways to deliver a simple file

  • Kit: a form’s confirmation settings can send the reader to an uploaded file or another URL. Official setup.
  • MailerLite: its freebie guide uses a group-triggered automation and a link to a file. Budget for the automation steps you use. Official setup.
  • EmailOctopus: link to a file hosted elsewhere; direct attachments are not supported. Check that the hosting link is accessible to an ordinary reader. Official file guidance.

When to consider a separate delivery service

If you need a dedicated ebook delivery workflow, compare BookFunnel’s included features and costs with the simple link you already have. Do not treat the email subscription as the complete cost of a two-service setup. Read the BookFunnel plan check.
